I have always loved this series of photographs by Roberto Dutesco featuring the wild horses of Sable Island. Just beautiful.

I came across this photo of Ralph Lauren's store. For me, it captures everything we have been doing and writing about in design this year. Black and gold, purple, emerald green, exotic animal prints and all luxury. This is fall and winter of interior design. Rich, dark and mysterious. Bravo Ralph. You never disappoint.

Feathered

This post is purely a page out of my notebook. It's raw, undefined inspiration that will eventually materialize in my work. When I'm inspired, as I have described before, my mind becomes a scanner. I see my object of inspiration everywhere. Sometimes it begins with an image, a color or a feeling. This time, it is simply words. I came across this verse from an Emily Dickinson poem. Not only does it inspire design but also the soul as it reminds us that hope is eternal.

"Hope is a thing with feathers.
That perches in the soul.
And sings the tunes without the words.
And never stops at all." - Emily Dickinson

Closet Diving

I spent my Friday night cleaning out my guest bedroom closet. It would not surprise most of you to know that the entire closet is dedicated just to my "inventory". Manuel Canovas fabric, those Lee Jofa fabrics that I intended to make pillows with, fourteen silk pillows, five lanterns, six pieces of framed art, and two hydes of leather, one white, one brown...not sure why I have these but the white leather would make a killer bag. So, in the spirit of my Friday night, I thought I would share some closets that are ever so slightly more fabulous than mine. Enjoy!

Life is a Masquerade

French Vogue celebrated their 90th Anniversary on September 30th with a Masquerade Ball during Paris Fashion Week. Reading about the event, struck me because I was so inspired earlier this year by the masquerade after including images of Venice's luxury Hotel Palazzina Grassi in my blog post, Beach House Chic, this past summer. Palazzina Grassi was designed by renowned designer, Philippe Starck. The Masquerade Ball was a tradition of the Venetian Carnival dating back to the 16th century Italian Renaissance. I still have the Venetian masks from my first trip to Italy as a young girl.

Femme Fatale

Black and Gold. I love feminine design with a dark hard edge. I call it grit and glamour. I guess it's just my personality...the city girl in me.
