Silver Screen

Yesterday, Nancy and I met a client before the snow.  While consulting about a new design plan for her living room, our client mentioned that pale peachy pink is her favorite color.  We all agreed that  accents of the most pale and watery shade of peach is gorgeous paired with a palette of silvery gray.  It reminds me of the silver screen...old Hollywood glamour... soft, feminine and sophisticatied.  Here are my "mental notes" for our new project.

Winter White

Surrounded by snow and dreaming of warmer exotic locales, brings to mind the all white interior.  I love the peaceful and casual quality, the simplicity.  I live in white.  When I think about an all white interior, I conjure up images of Brigitte Bardot, casual, tan and barefoot yet oozing elegance.

This white on white interior designed by Lindsey Bond in House Beautiful is particularly evocative.  Her use of frameless, grand scale, antique mirror leaning against the white walls blows me away.  I could move right in.

Tailored

We have been working on a bathroom design over the past couple weeks. Our inspiration for the tile detail is the classic Gucci horsebit design. Modern chocolate Glow tile with calcutta marble, espresso woods and modern fixtures in bronze set against the gray white stone. When we design, as I have often described, we begin with identifying a mood we want to create. Then, once we have agreed on a direction, Nancy and I continue to build on that concept pulling together images that express that mood. European, tailored, sleek, masculine, modern, luxury... Images then come to mind, a vintage black Italian sports car, a classic Gucci loafer, Armani's modern style and moody gray color palette... Here is a piece of our "look book" for this bathroom renovation.

Hollywood Regency Modern

Las Vegas Luxe is how I describe COLOR, a salon by Michael Boychuck at Caesars Palace, Las Vegas. Designed by Faye Resnick, the salon is a modern approach to Hollywood Regency style. High lacquer white paint and silver leaf finishes, venetian mirror, crystal chandeliers and a wall of translucent white shimmering glass tile. Slightly retro and futuristic at the same time....I can't help but think of the 1968 movie, Barbarella.  I don't know how or why my brain makes associations like this.  I've never even seen the movie.  Somehow, I doubt that images of Barbarella were on Faye's inspiration board but they would have been on mine..
