Emeralds & Oscar

Last week on twitter, I wrote that after seeing the Oscar de La Renta green silk fabric made in to dramatic drapes at the Lee Jofa showroom, I now must design a room with shades of emerald green, both light and dark. That is where it all begins just like an electric shock, as Nancy describes as I mentioned in my last post. We always seem to find the fabrics...the design and then the project appears. This happens a lot. So, I'm looking forward to designing with emerald green soon.

I must have a photographic memory. This is the only explanation I can find for the random associations I make when creating a design. So here we go again, emerald green. I see the movie Great Expections, with Gwenyth Paltrow and Ethan Hawke. The entire movie has a thread of imagery, clothing and cast shadows of emerald green. I can't help but notice it while watching the movie realizing that it draws me in. For me, emerald green creates the mood of mystery and a sense of the exotic.

Electric Shock of Amethyst

Yesterday while working at the BDC, Nancy and I were on our way to pick up some fabric samples when the elevator door opened and I got as Nancy often describes, an "electric shock". The new window at Webster & Company is drop dead gorgeous featuring a palette of gray and amethyst. I guess I was on to something. You know what I mean if you follow my posts. Then, this morning on twitter, Canadian House & Home Magazine tweeted "Update your home with purple! Get inspired by these gorgeous rooms in every shade from lilac to aubergine: http://bit.ly/97u0s7". I have included some of their featured spaces below.

Purple is luxury, magic, mystery and passion.

Photo: I forgot I took this photo with my phone. This is Nancy's Easter gift to her granddaughter Sage. What a lucky little girl. Notice that fabulous lavender tulle.

Photo: Nancy and I often create two different designs for one space to give a client two totally different options. This was Design #2, we all chose Design Plan #1, for FRINGE Boutique. The wallpaper is Lee Jofa and it is stunning. I plan to definitely use this on a future project.

Burlesque

I see glamour all around me. Sparkle, feathers, fringe, silk tafetta, black tulle, rock crystal, gold and silver leaf... There is a return to glamour and luxury. Our work has certainly been influenced by glamour in the past year. The ultimate in over the top feminine glamour is the art of burlesque. I saw a preview for the upcoming film, Burlesque, starring Christina Aguliera and Cher. It is scheduled to release in November. No doubt, this film will be filled with inspiration.

Ooh La La

The corset, yes..total torture but so glamorous and sexy. It is the inspiration for what has to be one of my favorite designs! This detail is the final piece to finish our client's dining room. Nancy and I are having two dining room end chairs made in chocolate silk tafetta with lace up corset stringing in smokey amethyst down the back of the chairs to resemble detailing of a couture gown. Ooh la la.

Design Boston 2010

I was honored to be a speaker on Kravet's Social Media Panel at Design Boston 2010 at the Boston Design Center. The most fun was spending an evening with this great group of talented women. Thank you ladies for your friendship and support.

Sheer Fabulous

Sheer drapery is so hot....and I'm not talking about those old fashioned, horrible, looks like "curtains in bag" sheer. I am talking about fabulous sheer with burn out patterns, or shimmery metallic threads woven in or even yes...cashmere sheer. It does exist. Kravet's new luxury fabric line, LIZZO, features a cashmere sheer that is drop dead gorgeous.

The sheer, featured below, is one that we are using for a client's project. It reminds me of fall leaves. The best word to describe this fabric is ethereal.
