Design Team

I seem to always be writing business plans mentally.  The phrase "Design Team" keeps coming to me..possibly because I could use a team to juggle our project load, motherhood and life in general.  However, I think this notion of the Design Team resonates with me because I have come to learn that the best designs are often collaborations...the push and pull of two or more minds.  Sometimes, it really feels like a push and pull when Nancy and I design...a real struggle and yet a total flow.  I truly believe that the struggle pushes the design farther and makes it greater.  It's a constant editing process...adding more, then pulling back.

Nancy and I even engage the client in the process.  Below is one of our design presentations.  There are probably eight different design layouts in this one presentation....one better than the next.  We like to see where our client gravitates, then build on that plan and edit the presentation as we are meeting with the client.  I guess this is why we never understand those perfectly constructed design boards leaning on easels that they teach in school.  Honestly, some of our best projects have been built on the studio or Kravet's showroom floor while Nancy and I stand over it or sit on the floor with our client throwing fabrics down and layering the plan.  So if you run into me at the Boston Design Center, be careful not to step on my design presentation.

Bright and Bold

I often describe my mind as a scanner. I'm always present and working on my current design projects while always dreaming or being pulled mentally to where I will be next. When I'm drawn, I see related images everywhere, from fashion to film to the moss growing on the ground. The best images are in my mind where they meet and become a play. Bright and bold colors such as citrine, turquoise, emerald green, hot pink, canary yellow and vibrant purple in design conjure up images of bright colored vintage cars along Havana streets, Palm Beach style, fashion of the '80's music scene, gems and geodes...
